We lead broad networks of partnerships that are working to co-create equitable, healthy, resilient and regenerative food systems in Baja California Sur. We understand the complexity of cultivating a healthy food system in the desert but if we achieve it here we can be an example to the rest of the world.
We create spaces for dialogue, healthy places that facilitate co-creation with those we serve: small farmers, systems change investors, businesses, government, community leaders, and philanthropists.
Transformational donors trust us to invest in systems change programs that are saving lives, feeding those in need and supporting the meaningful transition towards regenerative agriculture.
A Healthy Food Chain That Feeds Systems Change
Working with our generous benefactors we have demonstrated the importance of solidarity in the face of pandemics and climate emergencies. Now we are working closely with philanthropists and impact investors to put life back at the center of the food system in Baja California Sur.
We are actively listening to the landscape and tapping into the invaluable place-based bio-cultural wisdom that surrounds us. Our role is to set a seat for nature at the table every time we sit down to eat.
We are ready to learn from and teach others on the complexities of creating a healthy food system in the desert. If we achieve success here then we can become a beacon of resilience and regeneration to the rest of the world.
We are intricately interwoven with the bio-geo-physical processes that sustain life on Earth. Either we embrace our role in creating conditions conducive to life or we face the collapse of our life-support systems.
How We’re Going to Achieve it
We have built a winning team by harnessing the solidarity, reciprocity and love that emerged from the collective response to the pandemic.
Now we are converting this collaborative spirit into the energy needed to drive systemic change in the food system of Baja California Sur.
Our strategy is based on a deeper understanding of food security, that recognizes its complexity and how it connects to all other aspects of life on earth.
Importantly we recognize the role of human and nonhuman actors in both the local food system and the broader ecosystem that supports it.
Founded on a shared vision, our programs are co-created with the people we serve: largely small farmers, local and international businesses, local and regional government, community leaders, systems change investors, philanthropists and visitors to Baja California Sur.
ASA seeks to create a knock-on effect beyond our programs. Together they forge a systemic vision that - combined with the challenging context of our desert landscape - offers invaluable insights for other bioregions struggling to adapt to desertification and the deterioration of their water systems.
