Co-Creating Effective Climate Crisis Strategies for Baja California Sur
We're forging a powerful alliance of diverse partners, a resilient network that understands how food security is crucial for mitigating and adapting to the climate crisis. Our cross-sector, collaborative efforts go beyond responding to emergencies, aiming to nurture a culture of shared knowledge, preparedness, and unity in our communities.
Harnessing shared methods and platforms, we're creating a dynamic network focused on food security but evolving into a multifaceted force addressing other key issues including health, housing, infrastructure, and water management.
Our model for comprehensive emergency responsiveness and resilience has yielded life-saving results during three major hurricanes. Our strategies, common language, and platforms are now being deployed beyond our region.

Readiness for Climate Emergencies Saves Lives
Our efforts are grounded in solidarity and preparedness. We're dedicated to creating a safer, fairer state, focusing on readiness for climate emergencies to avoid a repeat of the terrible events of Hurricane Odile in 2014.
Through the State Plan for Response to Food Emergencies (PEREA), we collaborate to deliver nutritious meals to those most in need following climate emergencies. This networked approach provides vital support in times of crisis.
Understanding the multifaceted nature of the climate crisis, we employ collaborative leadership and adaptive strategies. This holistic approach is essential in preparing our communities to adapt to the challenges.
Together we can increase climate resilience by promoting collective adaptation in the face of mounting threats. By focusing on climate resilience and food security, we can achieve more resilient and responsive communities.

How We’re Going to Achieve it
As a cofounder of Alianza Comunitaria BCS (ACBCS) our organization played a critical role in the organization's pandemic response efforts.
This inspirational collaboration brought together 83 businesses, civil society organizations, over 500 volunteers, and the armed forces, resulting in the distribution of more than 220,000 food parcels to 96,000 families throughout Baja California Sur.
Building on this success, we have integrated strategies from international agencies such as FEMA, CENAPRED and others to forge a unified methodology tailored to the needs of our region.
This new collaborative framework marks an important shift from reactive crisis management to a more systematic approach, emphasizing shared expertise and efficient communication.
The approach has yielded great success during the last three hurricanes, demonstrating its effectiveness.
Looking ahead, we plan to expand our reach by creating synergies with other existing networks, including fishing cooperatives, government bodies, private entities, and civil society organizations.
Our collective commitment, deepened by our experience with ACBCS, inspires ongoing efforts to extend the original scope to address broader climate resilience challenges, such as housing and infrastructure.
We’re seeing the transformative power of collective action in overcoming environmental challenges, extending far beyond food-related emergencies.
