Nourishing Baja California Sur with Food and Love
We use food – the ultimate connector – to nurture community networks that enable local leaders to overcome their own challenges. With your help we can build a healthy, equitable, and resilient food system in Baja California Sur.
We connect generous and visionary donors with local leaders committed to eliminating food poverty and improving living conditions for everyone in their communities.
BAMX Sudcaliforniano recovers and distributes 40 tonnes of food a year, directly contributing to the well-being of 5,000 people a month. This is possible thanks to a network of more than 150 collaborators and donors.

The Struggle for Food Sovereignty for Everyone
While 190,000 people struggle with food access, an astounding 18,000 tonnes of food are wasted each month in this region. Most of these people live far from the most prosperous regions with great economic growth. This stark contrast uncovers systemic flaws in our food and social system.
Through our food distribution programs, we provide nutritious meals to families in need. Having access to food is the cornerstone that empowers individuals to start thinking and dedicating time to transformation.
By highlighting and discussing systemic issues and bringing together key stakeholders, we work to collaboratively transform the region's food system, connecting and strengthening the oases that support life for all of us.
Our long-term goal is to achieve a level of abundance in the Baja California Sur food system by strengthening it to the point where its inhabitants have the resources they need to sustain themselves

How We Do It?
We are focused on implementing the following strategies in association with our extended network of stakeholders.
1. Food Recovery: Recovering healthy and innocuous food across the supply chain and preparing it for distribution.
2. Warehouse and Operations Management: Strengthening the organizational and institutional infrastructure to enhance capabilities in the reception, storage, and distribution of food.
3. Community Empowerment: Maximize the use of donated food by forming alliances, networks, and dialogues that drive the action of a Food Collaboration Network as well as the prosperity and resilience of the communities.
4. Stakeholder Network: Fostering and reinforcing partnerships with the private sector, organized civil society, and other vital stakeholders to boost food recovery and catalyze thriving communities.
By collaborating with a variety of organizations and partners, we implement initiatives spanning education, leadership, risk management, health, nutrition, business administration, water management, family economics, and gender issues.
This holistic approach ensures we meet a wide array of community needs, extending well beyond food distribution
How It Works
Step-by-Step
BAMX Sudcaliforniano in numbers: Where Are We and Who Are We With?
Recovering healthy and innocuous food across the supply chain and preparing it for distribution.
In our mission to cut food waste in half in Baja California Sur by 2030 we are working with supermarkets, food producers and hotels and restaurants to recover healthy and innocuous food across the supply chain.
Our team gets better each year. Last year we increased the amount of food selected and sorted by 68%. How? By strengthening our organizational and institutional capacity to receive, select, store, and distribute food.
We are actively working to recover and distribute food and other resources in five of the municipalities of Baja California Sur: La Paz, Los Cabos, Loreto and Comondú. We currently support 39 different communities.
The real champions of Baja California Sur are the 300 people working tirelessly to improve the living conditions for everyone in their communities. We are proud to help them feed more than 5,000 people a month.

Feeding Systems Change in Baja California Sur
Our strategy is based on a systemic understanding of food security, which recognizes its complexity and the interdependence of all elements, actors and regions in both the local food system and the broader ecosystems in which it is nested.
Our programs are founded on a shared vision, co-created with the people we serve: small farmers, businesses, government, local community leaders, and other stakeholders including local businesses and visitors.
ASA seeks to create a knock-on effect beyond our programs. Our systemic vision combined with the challenging context of Baja California Sur can offer valuable insights for other regions.
