Fighting Hunger with Food and Love in Baja California Sur
We’re fighting to bring an end to hunger and malnutrition in Baja California Sur. By creating a thriving bioregion in the desert we can become a beacon to be emulated throughout the rest of the world.
We create spaces for dialogue and organize collaboration networks for the transformation and co-creation of an equitable, healthy, resilient and sustainable food system for Baja California Sur.
Through our efforts, we have reduced food insecurity rates by 30% in the region.

The Struggle for Food Sovereignty for Everyone
In one Baja California Sur there are currently 190,000 people struggling with food poverty, while the food system produces 220,000 tonnes of waste each year and local farmers struggle to find buyers for their products. if we work together we can end food poverty by joining up the dots.
We work tirelessly to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Through our food distribution programs, we provide nutritious meals to families in need, helping them thrive.
We channel financial resources and donations in kind to feed hungry children in community kitchens but we want to empower local farmers and communities to produce healthy food for those hat need it most.
The ultimate goal is to achieve abundance in the Baja California Sur food chain so people have the resources to feed themselves.

How We’re Going to Achieve it
Our priority is to strengthen mitigation, adaptation and collective learning capacities in the face of the challenges of climate change, with the aim of guaranteeing food security for the most vulnerable communities in BCS.
We work closely with urban communities, agricultural producers, companies, and civil and governmental organizations to form networks for prevention and organized response to climatic phenomena.
We approach this challenge, using collaborative leadership skills and co-design of strategies.
We also encourage local capacity building, such as community organizing, damage assessment, first aid, and fire mitigation. The State Plan for Response to Food Emergencies (PEREA), one of our outstanding projects, is implemented in coordination with our allies in the five municipalities of BCS.
Its objective is to facilitate access to nutritious and sufficient food in emergency situations, such as the damage caused by hurricanes Olaf (2021) and Kay (2022). Help us make BCS a stronger and fairer state!

Seeking Systemic Change in Baja California Sur
ASA seeks to create a knock-on effect beyond our programs. Together they forge a systemic vision that, when combined with the challenging context of our desert landscape, offers invaluable insights for other bioregions struggling to adapt to desertification and the deterioration of their water systems.
