Bringing an End to Needless Food Waste in Baja California Sur
Food holds memories and stories of cultures and societies. They are also symbols of identity and reflect the relationship between human beings and nature. Despite this close connection, food loss and waste is one of the main challenges facing humanity today.
Our holistic approach connects businesses, restaurants, retailers, hotels, food producers and local governments with regional, national, and international donors and experts to halve food waste by 2030.
In 2023, we developed a thorough program to end food waste in Baja California Sur, involving diagnostics, actor and resource mapping, and socialization. Ready for launch in 2024, this roadmap lays a solid foundation for our goal.
Eradicating Food Waste With Systemic Change
If food loss and waste were a country, it would be the third-largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions. To prevent this we're building a network of responsible food producers, retailers, restaurants, hotels and wholesalers, creating dialogues that will enable us to eliminate the costly inefficiencies in the food system.
By highlighting and discussing systemic issues and bringing together key stakeholders, we work to collaboratively transform the region's food system, connecting and strengthening the oases that support life for all of us.
The roadmap to achieving our goals by the end of this decade involves collaboration and strengthening of alliances between international donors and local actors committed to reducing food loss.
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ASA is committed to reducing Food Loss and Waste (FLW) by 50% per capita by 2030. How? By fostering dialogues that ignite collaboration and create enduring impacts.

How We’re Going to Achieve it
